Tattoo aftercare instructions

Congratulations on your new tattoo! Proper aftercare is crucial for a beautiful and lasting result. Follow these instructions carefully to ensure your tattoo heals perfectly and remains a vibrant piece of art.

Essential steps for perfect healing

The most important thing for your new tattoo's healing is consistent and proper aftercare. This includes keeping the tattoo clean, avoiding unnecessary touching or picking, and following the specific guidance provided by your tattoo artist. I recommend using A&D ointment for healing, but you can use what you prefer.

Things to avoid during healing

During the healing process, certain activities and products can hinder proper healing and potentially damage your tattoo. You should avoid picking, scratching, peeling, or rubbing the tattoo. Do not soak it in pools, hot tubs, baths, or natural bodies of water. Excessive sun exposure or tanning, tight clothing that constantly rubs against the tattoo, heavy sweating, or activities that cause repeated friction are also to be avoided. Do not apply alcohol, hydrogen peroxide, or harsh/fragranced products unless specifically recommended, and never use someone else’s aftercare products or share towels.

When to contact a professional

While some redness, tenderness, peeling, itching, and mild flaking are normal during healing, certain signs indicate something might not be right. Reach out to us if you experience increasing redness, swelling, warmth, or pain. Also, be aware of pus or unusual discharge, a bad or unusual odor, fever, or feeling generally unwell. If you notice redness or swelling spreading beyond the tattoo, or a rash or reaction that keeps getting worse, please contact us. If something feels concerning or severe, you should also contact a parent/guardian and a healthcare professional, rather than relying only on the artist.
